Family Friday

We had my grandson, Verne, visiting over the weekend! He spent Saturday night with us and my daughter and son-in-law came to pick him up on Sunday. We had such a great time that he wasn’t entirely convinced he was ready to go home.

He is a country boy and so was enamored of the sidewalks in my little town. We walked to the beach and he played in the water for a few hours.

My sister and her fiancĂ© were visiting from Connecticut as well. They were staying at my mum’s. She lives just below us on the first floor. It was nice for us all to be together without anyone having to drive home.

We live just around the corner from the town landing so we walked down to the dock in the morning and watched the fishermen getting ready for the day.

I had some time between when I got out of work and a staff meeting later in the evening so I took some pictures in the public gardens. The swan boats are a right of passage and a big tourist draw here in Boston. If you’ve ever read the book Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey, these are the boats that Mr. and Mrs. Mallard get their peanuts from.

When my daughter and son-in-law came to pick up Verne, they brought Abigail with them. I got a chance to visit with her as well! She’s so darn cute!

  1. Lovely post. Your grandkids are cute and spending time with them is always a blessing. I have one of mine this weekend but we’ll be at his home. Much easier for all of us.

  2. She IS cute, and Verne is a cutie too. You have a beautiful family. Did you take him on the swan boats?

  3. What a joy it was to see your grandchildren. He looks like he’s having fun in the water. Abigail looks like she is peacefully sleeping in the chair. That’s a great picture of all of you, and you mom looks young.

    Happy August days.

  4. What a wonderful week of family time! My daughters LOVED Make Way,for Ducklings when they were little and we finally on our 2014 visit for a week in Boston, spent time in the public gardens ( all other years we would just walk through) and we rode the swan boats and the girls posed on the ducklings which stil had their easter bonnets on! It was loads of fun. Boston is our fave city. What did Verne think of them?

    Abigail is adorable!

    Enjoy the weekend!

  5. Verne is getting so big! How nice to have an overnight visit. We haven’t tried that yet. Nice to be so near family. I love the swan boats! My kids loved several of McCloskey’s books when they were young. Abigail is so cute. How fun to live near the beach.

  6. It’s obvious that you are loving being a grandma. And it’s also obvious that your grandkids are so adorable.
I did read Make Way for Ducklings. It’s lovely to know the history and background of the book.
