The fun

My grandson Verne spent the weekend at my house! We were busy doing all kinds of little boy things. It was the most fun I’ve had in a very long time!

The good

On Sunday afternoon my daughter and son-in-law came to pick up Verne so I got to see my granddaughter, Abigail as well. She’s getting so big and she’s always got a smile on her face. She’s full of laughter!

The random

My mum has just about finished moving into the apartment below us. My Joe and my sister’s Joe helped my mum by fishing the TV wires through the walls so they wouldn’t all be hanging.

Be it ever so humble

There is furniture in the living room now so it no longer feels as if we’re camping out.

It’s just about as cozy as I knew it would be but I like it. We’ve still to choose a recliner for Joe and there are pictures to hang yet. We will hang the mirror before the weekend. I like the idea of it reflecting our little conversation area.

It’s very different than where we were before. Everything here is tucked in and tight whereas in Nahant things were wide open and spread out. Joe and I were just commenting last night how much more we feel at home here than we did in Nahant.

I made a quick pasta salad for dinner and I’ve got a wash going -Wednesday is wash day.

There is a small-ish extra room we’ve taken to calling the music room. It has the washer and dryer and a large closet at one end and what you see above at the other end. We have put the guitars in here along with an old Kalimba and a pair of drumsticks that I found at a yard sale. It also has my desk which you can see on the left side.

I spend Monday helping my mum with her big move. She has downsized into a rather smallish apartment on the first floor and Joe and I have downsized into a rather smallish apartment on the second floor. We can all take care of each other.

She gifted me with her loveseat and chair because my sofa wouldn’t fit into my place and I gifted my sofa to my daughter. This is a picture of my place starting to come together. Moving sure is a lot of work!

Tucker is having a cat nap on the new chair by the window. He loves to stare out the window and catch up on all the goings on…and he also loves a little cat nap. He didn’t love all the big guys coming in and out of the house all day.

After a full day of moving we went out to dinner. We walked down to the Landing as it was the closest place and we were simply too tired to walk go any further. We sat on the deck and watched the harbour while we ate.

Monday

The good

It was beastly hot here over the weekend so I spent the early morning in the garden sipping coffee. The rest of the day I was in the house with the AC cranking.

The random

Of an evening Joe and I walked down to the harbour. The light house at Chandler Hovey park was lit up. We didn’t remember them lighting it like this before and don’t know if it’s a new thing or if it was just temporary. Either way it was a pleasant way to while away an after dinner stroll.

The fun

Adam Sandler and his movie crew are gone for the time being and so are most of the Halloween decorations. We are now back to carrying on our regularly scheduled July.

19 July

Sunday evening Joe and I walked out to get an ice cream. Hollyhocks are the flower of Marblehead and we saw them growing all around town.

About a month ago my granddaughter had surgery to repair a cleft lip. My daughter took this picture of her over the weekend. I’m so happy that the 8 hour surgery went so well. She has to wear a small piece of tape over the site for another few weeks but other than that she’s doing fantastic! Sweet little Abigail Rose. She’s so darn cute.

My daughter, Hannah, got her masters in social work in May and has just been offered a great job. She’s very happy and I am very happy for her.

There’s a grocery market just around the corner from our house. It’s not a chain market and is a bit more expensive than the store we normally go to. But, we have been going there lately as it’s so convenient and because it’s just the two of us it’s rather nice. It’s a smaller store and less frantic. I can walk for just a few things or ride my bike. I walk past a lot of beautiful little gardens like the one pictured above. It’s a pleasant change from where we were living before and had to go off island to get to the market.

The bean plants we planted in my toddler classroom have been growing like crazy! The children love seeing how they are growing so big!

Hollyhocks of an evening ~growing up out of a crack between a sidewalk and the old house. They forever make me think of summer and home.

Isn’t it funny how a flower can bring you memories of honeyed days…violets were my grandmother’s favourite, mint reminds me of the friendly old man who lived next door to us and always had a patch of it in his garden, my mum loves Peonies and tells me stories of ants and grape jelly when hers are blooming.

Anyway…here are some of the hollyhocks which are blooming all over the crooked and narrow streets of Marblehead.

Marblehead’s Glover regiment were the soldier’s on the boat that Washington rowed across the Potomac….way back in the day. All weekend they’ve been prowling around town…shooting off their muskets and reenacting the famous boat ride. I happened to be driving behind them as they made their way toward the harbour.

The fun

The Glover regiment may have gone back in time to reenact Washington’s boat ride but along the street named after him time has sped up a few months!

It’s Halloween on Washington street! Adam Sandler is filming the Netflix movie Hubie Halloween here next week!

The good

My mum will be moving into the apartment below us in about a week’s time. She has decided that her love seat will not fit and has gifted it to us. That means that we will be able to save the money we were going to spend on one! All this moving is beginning to tire me out. I’ll be glad when it’s done. My kitchen looks nice though. It’s the room that is most finished. I really just have to hang some artwork but I’m waiting to be sure before I mark up the beautiful walls.
